George Fox's Journal

This "Autobiography" is really George Fox's Journal by another title. As such, it costs less than the kindle version of the "Journal". This Kindle Enhanced version is simply better formatted for the Kindle and makes it a little easier to read, e.g. neater line wrapping - probably worth the extra two bucks for that. However for those really strapped for cash the 99c version of this "Autobiography" would give you the Journal at a bargain basement rate. There are also free copies around the internet but none are correctly formatted for the Kindle. This one at $2.99 seems the best deal for a Kindle friendly copy to me.

What Does It Mean?

Autobiography of George Fox - Enhanced Version I have a question or two I'm hoping others will answer. First, what does the phrase "enhanced version" for Kindle mean? What I've noticed is that on my Kindle I can read only Kindle versions of printed matter that make use of black or boldface type. The type used in the version I downloaded (free) from Gutenberg was way too light to read. The Kindle version ($2.99) has black or boldface type, is easy to read, and is well worth the three bucks. That's what "enhanced version" means to me. My second question is whether the Kindle edition, which is more than 350 pages long, is really part of George Fox's "Journal" or is it truly his "Autobiography"? Can someone untangle and shed some light on this subject? By the way, I highly recommend the Kindle version of Fox's masterpiece. The Introduction zeroes in on Fox's mysticism, which is practically a taboo word and subject here in the Pacific Northwest. In the Northwest and probably almost everywhere else in the U.S., mysticism is wrongly viewed as fuzzy-wuzzy and as mystification. In the world of religion, however, mysticism has a clear meaning: communion or unity with the One, with God, with the Absolute, with the Divine. Fox saw beyond surface reality to the spiritual reality that lies beneath. He realized that this inner reality can be experienced through such disciplined practices as meditation or contemplation, or it can be experienced immediately and directly through intuition. Materialists are not able to do that or to understand what I've just written; they just don't get it. They don't believe a spiritual reality exists that opens surface material reality to the spirit of God that exists within. George Fox got it. It's too bad Quakerism, which started with Fox, seems to have drifted from Fox's deeply spiritual roots. If you read Fox, his pen can renew your heart, mind, and spirit.
