Disappointing, but better than the alternative

This is taken almost exactly from the PDF copy available for free at the publisher's website [...] The in-book table of contents is not linked and appears to be merely a picture, hence my thought that they just modified the PDF slightly to include a very rudimentary linked table of contents at the beginning. This "enhanced version" features links to Scripture references contained in the text, but these require internet access in order to function, as they open as links in the browser. This feature might be nice, but it doesn't make up for a stunted table of contents, especially when the "original" ToC goes significantly more in depth than the one contained here.
Having said this, the only alternative available for Kindle, Early Christian Fathers, has worse formatting throughout the text, so this one is much preferred to that for general reading. The other also lacks a ToC entirely, so this one's deficient one is preferable.

Essential resource for study of Early Christianity

This collection of first and second century documents is among the most useful available for students of historic Christianity. My original paperback edition is falling apart. Having this version available on kindle is a real blessing!

Enhanced Version Convenient, but does not Display all References

This is a well-known classic containing descriptions, historical context and text of many of the writings of the patristics during the first three centuries of the Church's history. The enhanced Kindle version is relatively convenient to use, and it is easy to refer back to the notes and return to the text. My one quibble is that, while most Biblical references provide the Bible text when clicked on, apparently the Christian Classics Ethereal Library uses the Protestant Bible, rather than the Catholic Bible. As a result, the references to Old Testament books not in the Protestant Bible do not appear when clicked on. This is a shame and this version would be so much more useful if all of the references would display. Primarily for that reason, I suggest for this, and many other non-fiction reference-type books, a hard copy is better than the Kindle version.
